How it fires

How this agent gets triggered: by you, by Claude, or both.

  • Fires itselfAuto-invocation. Claude auto-loads it when your prompt matches the work.Auto-invocation is when the right skill fires by itself at the right moment, driven by a FLOW.md router and a hook, instead of you invoking it by name. It is the difference between a skill being installed and a skill actually getting used.Read the full definition →

Agent definition

buildkite.md

Tuist and Buildkite: a development improvement layer or a CI and Test Engine platform?

Choose Tuist when its supported toolchain integrations, compatible cache reuse, and build/test evidence improve your existing development loop. Optimize the project first, then its execution environment. Add [Tuist caching or tests](/marketing-markdown) to the current pipeline and connect CI work with compatible developer builds and authorized agent investigations.

What overlaps

Buildkite documents [hosted macOS agents](https://buildkite.com/docs/agent/buildkite-hosted/macos.md), available on **Pro or Enterprise** plans, as well as [Test Engine splitting with bktec](https://buildkite.com/docs/pipelines/speed-up-builds-with-bktec.md) and [flaky-test detection and quarantine](https://buildkite.com/docs/pipelines/reduce-flaky-tests.md).

Its [coding-agent guide](https://buildkite.com/docs/pipelines/getting-started-with-coding-agents.md) describes MCP, skills, and Markdown documentation for working with Pipelines, Test Engine, and Package Registries. Do not imply that hosted Apple machines, test acceleration, or agent-ready workflows are exclusive to Tuist.

Compare the responsibilities

| Requirement | Tuist | Buildkite evidence to evaluate | | --- | --- | --- | | Orchestrate pipelines and choose agents | Supported integrations add a capability to existing CI; optional [Tuist Runners](/marketing-markdown/compute) integrate with Buildkite subject to invitation. | Buildkite manages pipelines with hosted or customer-managed agents. Using Tuist does not require replacing Buildkite orchestration. | | Reuse build outputs across environments | [Cache](/marketing-markdown/cache) supports compatible developer, CI, and agent clients independently of Tuist Runners. | Evaluate hosted-agent persistence, cache configuration, and artifact mechanisms separately from a toolchain remote cache. | | Split and contain unreliable tests | [Tests](/marketing-markdown/tests) provides feature-specific reporting, quarantine, and timing-balanced sharding for supported integrations. | Test Engine and bktec also split tests and quarantine flakes. Compare framework support, state ownership, retries, and scheduling. | | Investigate with agents | [Tuist MCP](/en/docs-markdown/guides/features/agentic-coding/mcp) exposes supported toolchain build/test records and integration workflows. | Buildkite offers MCP and skills spanning its platform. Compare a specific toolchain question with a pipeline-operation question. |

Choose Tuist when

You want an additional layer of Xcode, Gradle, Bazel, or Elixir evidence and compatible cache reuse while retaining Buildkite pipelines. You want to inspect the [public implementation](https://github.com/tuist/tuist) and contribute to integrations that matter to the team. Generated Xcode projects can also use module caching and test-target selective testing; those are not prerequisites for most server capabilities.

First experiment

Pilot a [supported Tuist integration](/en/docs-markdown/guides/get-started) in one existing pipeline without changing the orchestrator. Compare setup, compilation, transfers, and test time against the current baseline. If enabling Tuist test acceleration, assign scheduling and quarantine to one system at a time and measure both latency and total machine-minutes. Use Tuist MCP to investigate a recorded failure and require approval before pipeline changes.

Sources and review

Sources checked on **2026-10-08**: Buildkite's [hosted macOS agents](https://buildkite.com/docs/agent/buildkite-hosted/macos.md), [bktec acceleration](https://buildkite.com/docs/pipelines/speed-up-builds-with-bktec.md), [flaky-test management](https://buildkite.com/docs/pipelines/reduce-flaky-tests.md), [coding-agent guide](https://buildkite.com/docs/pipelines/getting-started-with-coding-agents.md), and [Tuist Tests](/marketing-markdown/tests). This comparison is written by Tuist and treats orchestration, execution, and test acceleration as distinct decisions.

Limitations

Framework support and plan/deployment requirements vary. Tuist currently has no Bazel sharding or selective testing; Elixir quarantine is not applied yet. Public source does not imply every component has the same license or self-hosting rights. Tuist Runners are invite-only with no public pricing. No fastest-provider, cheapest-provider, or guaranteed-saving claim is established.
