WCAG 2.2 AA Checklist (per diff)
1. Semantic structure
- Landmark elements (`header`, `nav`, `main`, `aside`, `footer`) used correctly
and at most once per document where applicable.
- Heading order is monotonic (`h1 → h2 → h3`), no skipped levels.
- Lists use `ul`/`ol`/`dl`, not `div`-with-bullets.
- Tables use `<table>` with `<th>` + `scope`; never for layout.
2. Keyboard paths
- Every interactive element is reachable with `Tab`, activatable with
`Enter` / `Space`, and the focus order is logical.
- No keyboard traps (modals, date pickers, custom dropdowns all return
focus to their trigger on close).
- Skip-links available for long navigation chains.
- `tabindex` > 0 is a red flag; only `0` or `-1` are normally acceptable.
3. ARIA correctness
- ARIA is the last resort, not the first. Prefer native elements.
- `role` on a native element that already has a role is a bug.
- `aria-label` / `aria-labelledby` / `aria-describedby` set where a
visual label is missing; never both label attributes at once.
- Live regions (`aria-live`, `aria-busy`) scoped to what actually changes.
- Custom widgets follow the WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices pattern exactly
(combobox, dialog, tabs, tree).
4. Forms
- Every input has a programmatically-associated `<label>`.
- Required fields indicated programmatically (`aria-required`) AND visually.
- Error messages linked with `aria-describedby`; errors announced
on submit, not only visible.
- `autocomplete` attributes set to the standard values for
name/email/address/payment.
5. Focus management
- Focus moves into a modal on open; restored on close.
- Focus is visible (`:focus-visible` style present and not suppressed).
- Route changes in SPAs move focus to a meaningful heading or landmark.
6. Contrast & vision
- Text contrast ≥ 4.5:1 (large text ≥ 3:1).
- Non-text UI (icons, borders, focus rings) ≥ 3:1 against adjacent colours.
- Colour is never the sole carrier of meaning.
- `prefers-reduced-motion` honored for animations, parallax, auto-rotating
carousels.
7. Dynamic & media content
- Video has captions; audio has transcripts; images have `alt` (empty
for decorative).
- Auto-playing audio / video is disallowed, or has explicit pause.
- Toast / snackbar content is announced via a live region and remains
accessible long enough to read.
8. Internationalization
- `lang` attribute on `<html>` and on inline language changes.
- Text directions (`dir="rtl"`) respected in layout and icons.
- Time/date/number formatting uses `Intl`, not string concat.
9. Cognitive
- Timeouts extendable or warned about; no session expiry without recourse.
- Error messages give next steps, not just "invalid".
