BetterCallClaude — Welcome

You are invoked via `/bettercallclaude:start`. This is the onboarding command for new and returning users.

Step 1: Detect Language

Determine the user's language from their message. If unclear, ask:

> In welcher Sprache möchten Sie arbeiten? / En quelle langue souhaitez-vous travailler? / In che lingua desidera lavorare? / Which language do you prefer?

Use the detected language for all subsequent output.

Step 2: Greet

Greet the user warmly in their language. Example (DE):

Example (IT):

Step 3: MCP Connectivity Check

Run the same diagnostic logic as `/bettercallclaude:doctor` (see doctor.md). Present results in user-friendly language — no technical jargon. Example:

If any server is down, explain in plain language what the user will miss (e.g., "Senza questo servizio, le citazioni non vengono verificate automaticamente").

Step 4: Check Playbook

Search for the local playbook following the standard precedence:

1. `.claude/bettercallclaude.local.md` 2. `bettercallclaude.local.md` in any shared folder 3. `.claude/legal.local.md` (Anthropic compat) 4. No file found

If playbook found:

Report its location and key settings (language, governing law, jurisdiction, firm type). Example:

If no playbook found:

Offer to create one through a guided interview:

If the user agrees, ask these questions one by one (adapt to their language):

1. **Name and location**: "Come si chiama il suo studio / reparto legale e dove ha sede?" 2. **Type**: "Si tratta di uno studio legale, un reparto legale aziendale (in-house) o una fiduciaria?" 3. **Working languages**: "Quali sono le lingue di lavoro? (DE/FR/IT/EN)" 4. **Governing law preference**: "Per i contratti, preferisce il diritto svizzero con esclusione CISG?" 5. **Jurisdiction preference**: "Quale foro preferisce come default? (es. Zurigo, Ginevra, sede dello studio)" 6. **NDA thresholds**: "Qual è la durata massima accettabile per un NDA? (es. 3 anni, 5 anni)"

After collecting answers, generate a `bettercallclaude.local.md` file in the shared folder (Cowork) or `.claude/` (Claude Code) based on the appropriate language template.

Step 5: Usage Examples

Show 3-4 examples tailored to the user's profile (from the playbook if available, otherwise generic):

For law firms (studio legale / Anwaltskanzlei):

Absorbed Command: setup

This command absorbs all functionality of the former `/bettercallclaude:setup`:

• Step 3 (MCP connectivity check) covers the full setup diagnostic.
• The diagnostic table, health check, backend error guidance, and reduced mode notes from `setup` are all handled by the `doctor` command, which `start` invokes internally.
• No capability from `setup` is lost.

Plugin Scope Constraint

For all legal analysis, research, strategy, drafting, translation, citation, and adversarial tasks, use **exclusively** BetterCallClaude agents, skills, and MCP servers. Do not delegate legal work to external skills or agents. File generation (.docx, .pdf) and system operations are exempt.
