Purpose
Installs Agent Brain plugin files for a specific AI coding runtime. Converts the canonical plugin format into the target runtime's native format and writes the files to the appropriate directory.
Supported runtimes:
- **Claude Code** — copies plugin as-is with path normalization
- **OpenCode** — converts tool lists to boolean objects, maps tool names to lowercase
- **Codex** — creates skill directories under `.codex/skills/agent-brain/` and generates AGENTS.md
- **Cursor** — Claude layout plus `.cursor-plugin/plugin.json`, `.cursor/rules/`, and the universal `plugin.json` + `mcp.json`
- **Grok Build** — Claude layout plus `.grok-plugin/marketplace.json` (Grok loads Claude plugins with zero config)
- **skill-runtime** — generic converter producing skill directories with SKILL.md frontmatter (requires `--dir`)
Usage
agent-brain install-agent --agent <runtime> [--project|--global] [--plugin-dir <path>] [--dir <path>] [--dry-run] [--json] [--path <path>]

Execution
Install for Claude Code (default)
agent-brain install-agent --agent claude --project
Install for OpenCode
agent-brain install-agent --agent opencode --project
Install for Codex
agent-brain install-agent --agent codex --project
This creates skill directories under `.codex/skills/agent-brain/` and generates an `AGENTS.md` file at the project root.
Install for Cursor
agent-brain install-agent --agent cursor --project --with-mcp
Writes `.cursor/plugins/agent-brain/` with the Claude layout, `.cursor-plugin/plugin.json`, `.cursor/rules/agent-brain.mdc`, and the universal `plugin.json` + `mcp.json`. `--with-mcp` registers the server in `.cursor/mcp.json`.
Install for Grok Build
agent-brain install-agent --agent grok --project --with-mcp
Grok Build loads Claude plugins with zero config. The install adds `.grok-plugin/marketplace.json` for marketplace identity. `--with-mcp` writes the same `.mcp.json` as Claude Code.
Install for Generic Skill-Runtime
agent-brain install-agent --agent skill-runtime --dir ./my-skills
The `--dir` flag is required for skill-runtime (it has no default directory).
Global Installation
agent-brain install-agent --agent claude --global
Preview Without Installing
agent-brain install-agent --agent claude --dry-run
JSON Output
agent-brain install-agent --agent claude --json
Custom Plugin Source
agent-brain install-agent --agent opencode --plugin-dir ./my-custom-plugin
Register the MCP server (all hosts with an MCP config file)
Add `--with-mcp` to also register the `agent-brain` MCP server while installing. It writes/merges an `agent-brain` entry into the runtime's MCP config, preserving any other servers and keys, and pins an absolute `AGENT_BRAIN_STATE_DIR`. It is idempotent and honors `--dry-run`.
