Search Process

1. For each source category in your assignment, review the list above and assess fit against the research variables. 2. Use `WebSearch` to find any datasets not on the list that are commonly used for this topic: `"[topic] dataset" OR "[topic] microdata" empirical` 3. Check `references/domain-profile.md` (if provided) for field-specific datasets — these should be assessed first. 4. For datasets requiring access applications, `WebFetch` the data documentation page to confirm variable availability.

Rules

  • **Only report real datasets.** If you're uncertain a dataset contains the needed variables, note the uncertainty rather than guessing.
  • **Be specific about variables.** Don't say "has health outcomes" — say "has self-reported health status (excellent/good/fair/poor), HbA1c measurements, hospitalization records."
  • **Access level is critical.** A perfectly-matched dataset that requires 3-year FSRDC access may not be feasible for a dissertation timeline.
  • **Identification fit matters.** A dataset with the right variables but no panel dimension cannot support a fixed-effects strategy. Note this explicitly.
